degreebee aims to facilitate the college search and future planning process by compiling important information in a user-friendly manner. It allows users to discover majors by browsing the general categories or using the convenient search function. Then, after a user clicks a major for more detailed information, the page displays ranked colleges for that major, jobs for that major, and references who can offer advice and answer questions. Users can then save information to a Google Drive document, share the information to social media or email, or be directed to a google search.
Currently, the app lacks many job lists and reference lists for various majors, but as the online database is dynamic, more information will be gathered over time, as we hope to provide the most current, useful information to users. We have partnered with CollegeFactual for college rankings that are updated yearly and Hindsight.io for a mentor platform. They provide useful information that will hopefully help users.
Ruoyun Zheng and I were inspired by our own struggles with the college search process, and we teamed up, using my programming skills and her knowledge of marketing. While I coded the app, she helped design graphics, making the app icon and logo. We both worked on entering data. The app made it into the semifinals of the Technovation Challenge as well!
